old subject i know but still give me your suggestions: songs to put on a summer compilation :)
and no more than 2 suggestions per post as that way i feel i’ll get your best choices ;)
I’d like a real mix of electronic, soul, rock, hip-hop, oldies etc and some of the songs i’m considering so far include:
only love can break your heart (andrew weatherall’s a mix of two halves) st etienne
sunny afternoon the kinks
concrete schoolyard jurassic 5
hercules aaron neville
spooky dusty springfield
long train running doobie brothers
mr brightside the killers
love me like you the magic numbers
play the hits hal
wesley music r.s.l.
etc etc
cheers
matt :)

What no Shuggie Otis? Strawberry Letter 23, natch.
I'm really liking Vigo Bay by Minotaur Shock at the moment, but everyone else thinks it sucks. Go figure.
The Shortwave Set is sounding nice and summer-y.
More to follow...

This one's obvious:
"Summertime" by The Sundays :)
also:
"Flaming June" by BT
Both capture that summer vibe for me.

The Foreign Exchange Be Alright, soulful, melodic, sunkissed hip-hop. Could have picked several from the album, Connected - one of my faves from last year.
Mike Fellows AM, may be too laid back, but this is a lovely bit of downtempo 'folktronica'. Soporific, pretty, delicate...contemplative, great for watching a sunset, or stoned stargazing. Actually, just get the album, Limited Storyline Guest, another corker from last year.
Dwight Trible & the Life Forece Trio Equipoise, their album Love is the answer has just been released on Ninja Tunes. Jazz-funk is probably the best description; reminds me of Lonnie Liston Smith and Terry Callier but with a healthy dash of Ninja hip-hop and electronica thrown in. If this isn't in my top 10 at the end of the year...it's gonna be a great year :)
If you have problems finding these, matt, let me know...

Beck - Electric Music and the Summer People (ignore the summer reference and it's still a very cracking song!)

Not as good IMO, and Vigo Bay is nothing like Chiff Chaffs at all. I really liked Out of the Hot and a few of the other tracks, but in comparison the new album sounds a bit tired to me. Vigo Bay is a bit of a shining light in comparison, but if I heard it on the radio, I'd never link it to Minotaur Shock.
