It was released already in the states?? I saw it last night and i can see a storm falling over Lars Von Trier for this movie.. (or it already happened?) in the US.
Is not as good as Dogville in the drama sense.. thought the subject is pretty hardcore without being soo dramatic and in fact more satiric.. i feel bad about laughing about the whole slaves thing! but you cannot help it..
Anyway, he did it again... I can't wait for the third now..
I haven't seen it around yet. Does it suffer from not having Kidman?

it played at a film festival here last october (i had to miss it to go see LCD soundsystem)... but you know i'm not even sure Dogville got a proper release here... i think it might just randomly pop up on dvd shelves at some point.
I quite liked Dogville. Challenging film. Saw it to due to a dirty rec, too, so, thanks, whoever that was.

It didn't have a proper release here neither it was part of the mexico city's film festival. Im just wondering because i can't imagine (or maybe i can) the response of the public to this film.. so i though it wasn't even shown, or wanted to know what the hell happnened
This one is changelling too, mostly because of the subject. Nothing wrong with Nicole not being there, that girl is awsome too.

I came across a DVD rip of this film a few months back on a torrent site and never got around to viewing more than the first 20 minutes.
This past weekend it played at the Portland International Garage Sale(Film Festival) for one showing. Alas, I missed out on it as I was sleeping my Sunday afternoon away when it was screened.
From what I did see in my initial 20 minute viewing of the film I was enjoying, but not enough to stay awake for the entire film. Bryce Dylan Howard seemed just fine in the role of grace too.
I think the film was released stateside in only NYC and LA at this point. It will probably pop up here and there over the next couple months as it's available on DVD.
What I want to know is whats next in the trilogy as Von Trier has stated that it's at a state of unknown. I wish I had a link handy that I could put up here with this post that is more recent than this one (http://www.twitchfilm.net/archives/001935.html). I believe there was a piece in the guardian a few months back about the delay being attributed to trying to determine where to go next in the trilogy.
Might as well tackle the Red scare of McCarthy in the 50s and maybe throw in a bit of terrorism as an enemy without a face or nation mixing some of Timothy McVeigh and Osama, but more McVeigh since we're dealing with American's here. Mix in some good old fashion racisim and some slavery and let it simmer.
But he should change the song at the end of the third film in the Trilogy from Bowie's Young American's to his more recent, I'm affraid of America's.

Well I finally saw it, although I had to download it because it just refuses to be released in the USA in any form. Very excellent film. Really looking forward to the third one.
Why hasn't it been released here?

Not really sure.. theres no shortage of American actors in it. It was suppsoed to be released here in theaters but never was. I think it had something to do with the fact they shot a real live donkey on set. PETA got kinda outraged and stuff.. even though they re-edited the movie so you dont see splattered donkey brains everywhere, they killed a donkey for the film. If you ask me the donkey had it coming.
Maybe the donkey was already terminally ill, so it's not so bad. I know that's what I'd do.
