Hope this one lasts long enough for someone to get it.

And that it doesn't disappear or get cancelled early.

I've already got it, but something like 4K Video Downloader (free) should make it easy for anyone to download before it disappears.

Weird, I got a 1.8 GB file. I'll have to compare it and see what's going on.

OK, so you guys all got the same size on the video, which is also the same size that I see if I fetch it now. It runs at about 2200 Kbps. However, when I downloaded it last night, shortly after the premiere concluded, I got a video stream with a 3000 Kbps bitrate, about 40% higher. I'll have to do some comparisons and see if that translates into actual better video quality.

For the audio side, everyone had the same 128 Kbps soundtrack, except yours, Mark. Yours had a 256 Kbps audio track for some reason. What did you use to download from YouTube? As far as I'm aware, YouTube only offers 128 Kbps max, so I'm wondering if yours got re-encoded. If not, I'd be really interested in how to get 256 Kbps audio.

Miles, I deleted your torrent because you mislabeled it with the wrong date and city, and also because I noticed (before I did all these comparisons) that it was much smaller than my copy. So we'll figure out what's the best quality for audio and video and get something definitive posted.

I ended up with a 1.46GB / 1.37GiB (1,469,796,255 byte) file out of youtube-dl, which is... close, but not exactly the same as what everyone else is reporting. I grabbed it with the following, which combines the 1080p video and AAC audio tracks:

youtube-dl -f '137+140' 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=Nz-eF5_tI-s'

The resulting file has a sha256sum of 6d806d1085ca255cda45f576545629881c494ab8a4f1b5b635 fdaf69953c896f.

I used 4K Video Downloader you suggested. It went really smooth and downloaded without problems. Wish I had known about this program a month ago 😊

Ah, I got my files crossed. It was actually neorev's file that has the 256 Kbps soundtrack. How did you download it such that it had that bitrate for the soundtrack?

I grabbed the audio format 140 and the audio+video format 22 and both of them have 128kbit AAC audio. I'm guessing that any rip with a 256kbit audio track was converted from one of the opus inputs, but all of those were smaller and lower bit rate than the AAC, so you're not really gaining anything.

I used the Easy YouTube Video Downloader addon for Firefox.

It also gives me audio only download options for 128kbps and 256kbps.

Found this online:
As stated in this answer by Brandon, YouTube currently streams in 128 kbps ACC, when you select the Normal quality. Premium subscribers can also select the High quality, which streams at 256 kbps AAC (equal quality to GPM's 320 CBR kbps). To save bandwidth, you can also select Low quality with 48 kbps HE-AAC.

Thanks for that info. I’ll take a look at Premium and see if I can figure out what’s what.

Oh, also, are a Premium subscriber, btw?

Not currently, but thought maybe possibly they found a way to tap into that, if at all possible. Or could just really be 128kbps in the end. I tried using 4K Video Downloader and got 128kbps.

OK, I've researched this quite a bit, and I don't think it's possible. While 256 Kbps AAC streaming is available to YouTube Music subscribers with Premium, it is only available on the YouTube Music mobile app, where it is encrypted and they can control access to the platform. I haven't seen anyone's that's been able to access that stream. On the web client, the highest quality is limited to 128 Kbps AAC (or Opus, but Opus doesn't have the universal support that AAC does).

As for Easy YouTube Video Downloader, if it's this one:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/easy-youtube-video-download/
https://www.yourvideofile.org/

I call bullshit on that. There's so much that is misleading or untrue on the plug-in and their website, all geared towards directing you to "donate" to get the Pro version. Did you pay to get the Pro version? Because I don't see any way to get the 1080p video on that plug-in without paying. To be fair, this is a limitation of all browser plug-ins. They simply don't have enough filesystem permissions to do all the required post-processing manipulation of the separately MPEG-DASH-delivered video and audio streams from YouTube all within the browser. Standalone programs (like 4K Video Downloader or youtube-dl) don't have those limitations.

The audio only download options you mentioned are 128 Kbps MP3 and 256 Kbps MP3, right? Even that's misleading, because both of those are transcodes. YouTube doesn't serve any audio in MP3; they only use AAC and Opus. So, 128 Kbps MP3 would be a bad transcode, and 256 Kbps MP3 would be a slightly less bad transcode.

Just to close the loop on this, I did a trial of YouTube Premium, and looked into the 256 Kbps AAC streams. They are designated as format 141 by YouTube, and you can see if they're being streamed to you by enabling Stats for Nerds in the mobile app (or whatever YouTube client you're using). Using the YouTube Music app, I was able to determine that format 141 is only being served up for stuff that's licensed as Music to YouTube, i.e. through the major labels (like YouTube Topic channels for artists, if you know what that means).

For regular videos that are coming from www.youtube.com and mirrored in YouTube Music (music.youtube.com), they still only serve those in format 140 (128 Kbps AAC). Even videos that I know have previously been available in format 141 (like some that I downloaded back in late 2013 when there was a brief window when 141 was being served generally through the YouTube website), are still only available in 140, even through the YouTube Music app.
