Yes they are... you can listen here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b070jm2y
Not sure if there is a live video broadcast but they have generally had video of the performances to watch afterwards... probably very edited with some tracks removed.

Started with I Exhale and If Rah (The Luna Luna Luna song from the sampler/teaser youtube video they posted... I am basing this on a LastFM tweet from bbcradio6 music account saying it was that..)
Now onto Dark Train
1. I Exhale (Sounded great)
2. If Rah (Think the intro sounded great... Karl still settling into how to sing it live I think)
3. Dark Train
4. .....
Dunwho
02-13-2016, 03:03 PM
Sounds like a good bit more improv on the older songs... which is refreshing since they have been playing a stiff setlist of some form for a while now (since Barking)
Would love them to return to the loose 2007/08/09 vibe that they had for the OWB tour
...this is going off one version of Dark Train... and Pearl's Girl

If Rah's the Luna Luna Luna song mixed (rather flawlessly I do say) with the "Yeah" and "Can You Hear Me" teasers on Youtube.
Dark Train and Pearl's Girl arrangements are very very tight and rehearsed sounding - this is not a complaint, they're very very good, like an unexpectedly well nailed performance ala their Everything, Everything picks vs their long improvized renditions. But with good new stuff thrown in here and there.
So far zero transitions.
TMO on next.
Dunwho
02-13-2016, 03:13 PM
Yea no transitions at all... I guess though they are sort of playing a one off live radio session so I don't expect it to flow hugely.
They are on to Two Months Off now and like the other classics it sounds like they have been adding a few extra samples here and there. The sound is fantastic on the stream.
WhiteNoise
02-13-2016, 03:16 PM
Yeah I can't believe how good this stream sounds. That Pearl's Girl bassline tore it up. I think they did something different to it.
I think they're going for (relatively) more of a songier "proper band" approach with the new record, hense the lack of transitions.
Aaaaand we lost them!!

I guess this is to be expected. They have had a full set or two on the website for 24 hours after the show itself so I hope they will have at least 6/7 songs available on the website soon.
Gideon Coe will be returning for the end of the set "later on" .... i'm going to guess that is 45 mins from now.

That's kind of how they've been playing for quite a few years now, and I wouldn't expect that to change.
I really like If Rah a lot.

That's kind of how they've been playing for quite a few years now, and I wouldn't expect that to change.
That is how they have been playing since Barking tour... it happened quite deliberately and I remember them commenting on how they were trying it out because they had never done it before..
Personally find it less interesting as I quite enjoy listening to all the variations in their many live shows where recordings exist... but for the Barking tour it was pointless listening to them all... nothing unique between the shows.
Hopefully they bring a little more improv back.. especially since the technology they are now using makes it so much easier to work on the fly with so many different samples... it is so easy now that just playing the same set over and over is a piece of piss..
I want to hear them try so hard they fuck it up... I want to hear them fuck it up and try harder.

Anyone else actually at the gig? Performance was great from what I could hear of it, but the sound quality in the hall was really, really bad. Any kick drum type bass was just totally distorted and drowned out anything else. Maybe for a festival stage they didn't have a proper soundcheck.
Highlights for me were If Rah, Pearl's Girl and Cowgirl. Sounded to me like the tempo of many numbers had been increased, possibly to fit in more material. Anyone confirm?
Looking forward to listening to the recording.

Definitely enjoying low burn but Ova Nova and Nylon Strung are also equally good... I can really hear a great consistent vibe across all of the new tunes. It also sounds like there is lots to work with so the live shows might start to grow nicely with them.
I also liked that they reduced Scribble down to a jam, I'd prefer they just went back to You Do Scribble anyway ;)

It's a special feeling to hear new Underworld music, and anticipate a new album. Remembering 2010 when "Scribble" dropped. Remembering how OWB tracks sounded after years of live gestation. Remember downloading The RiverRuns, hearing "Two Months Off" for first time on radio, etc. etc.
Watching this, i just got that feeling again.
The short "Shining Future" previews don't do these tracks justice. Can't wait to hear the album and listen loud.

Sorry! I meant to post the reason right after banning it, but got distracted by my daughter.
I appreciate your effort, Spooky Shoes. Based on your posted lineage though, it sounds like you basically played the BBC iPlayer movie, and recorded that sound output to WAV? If I'm wrong here, let me know, but that's basically a lossless recording of a lossy source. It's only under exceptional circumstances that that should be done. A direct rip of the lossy source would be the proper way.
There are currently 2 sources (1 complete and 1 incomplete), and I do need to see which sounds better, the 128 Kbps AAC from the radio broadcast, or the 96 Kbps HE-AAC from the video. I'm also waiting to see if additional sources appear (direct radio recording?).

"I Exhale" and "If Rah" just sound like unfinished demos to me, but I think the mellower tracks are really successful based on these performances. Ova Nova perhaps especially. They all remind me of the uplifting, melodic sound of Barking's version of Moon In Water, which is easily my favorite Underworld song of this decade so pursuing that direction works for me.

I agere about I Exhale, but definitely not about If Rah. that song has a very nice progression; don't forget this was a live performance. I think all the pieces are in place for this to be fantastic on the album.
Even Scribble in this live performance sounded incomplete at one point. The bass chords were dropped out for a long time and it felt flat.

But as per usual with UW lyrics, I don't dig too deep.
Over the years, reading the transcribed lyrics hasn't done much to change my affection for the songs.
Take " I Exhale,". Didn't like it on first listen, but came to love it subsequently, though I still don't get all the words and meaning.

You know the melody that comes in towards the end of "If Rah" reminds me of John Carpenter soundtracks. Does it anyone else?
Maybe a little - we are big fans of Carpenter (have tickets to see him play live here in London next Halloween, we saw Alan Howarth this past one - so excited!) but his tunes always sound very ponderous to me with defined notes held for a long time usually within a very narrow range. Not to mention the ancient equipment he composed most of that stuff on giving it a unique sound. If its the bit I think you are talking of, sure I could see that sounding Carpenteresque (and lets be frank, he used a lot of the same sounds for different soundtracks), but pretty coincidental im guessing.

Thanks for the ftp link Yan. Just watching the set on iPlayer now but good to have a download for future listening :)
I still don't really like I Exhale but I quite like the other new songs.

Yea no transitions at all... I guess though they are sort of playing a one off live radio session so I don't expect it to flow hugely.
To be fair they did transition Ova Nova into Nylon Strung. Not really in any elaborate way but the beat didn't stop.
Actually these two tracks together are definitely a highlight for me. Two really beautiful, emotional sounding songs with some nice singing by Karl and interesting to have female backing vocals (can't remember them having that ever?).
I also like Ricks' new starship Enterprise-like mixing console. :)

ALAF had Rick's daughter, Esme, on backing vocals. I don't think that's her on Nylon Strung though, cause she's a soprano (and it doesn't sound like her). I guess we'll have to wait until we get the liner notes to see the credits. Although maybe it's Karl's daughter. He's talked about her recent band stuff, and she did backing vocals for him too on the Edgeland tour.
