As Underworld have been named the Music Directors for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremonies, they will likely be busy with that for the first half of the year. Any Underworld Live shows will probably be in the second half of the year, if at all.

Was a performance really confirmed or are you just speculating?

not necessarily a performance, per se.

So anyone have any info on this Spring Fling Underwear Party in San Francisco on 14/04/2012??? Tix are on sale and apparently Underworld are headlining... I just saw the link on the underworldlive.com site...

For $20 - I may be able to make the treck - SF is only 8hrs away from LA - but there is no way I'm showing up in my skivvies!!!

TheBang

whoa, wtf. They must be being paid a mint to travel just for one show, and in the middle of Olympic preparations, to boot.

Looking at the website, I just don't even know what to think:

http://www.guspresents.com/monthly-special-events/underworld/

This is the weirdest thing I've seen since that burlesque show right before Underworld at Subsonic Spookfest. What's up, San Fran?

and the site has malware on it

Well that's strange to say the least... time to send a Dirt scout to the show to collect info?

TheBang

And now it's no longer listed on underworldlive.com.....

back alley entrance.
haha i bet.

Perhaps the underworldlive site was hacked...

It would certainly make more sense than uw flying all the way out to the states for some back alley show with a $20 entrance fee...

or maybe it was supposed to be linked on 01 April as a joke and was accidentally made live. Sorry for exposing your prank underworldlive site administrator! :D

can anyone actually confirm this... crazy.

But the site has malware, and from looking at a few photos... Erm.

Professor

got an email from HQ... the show is a mistake. No UW show in SF.

Resolute

Any idea how such a mistake come about?

Champiness

I'm interested in getting an explanation as well - I mean, I understand this... performance might have made a claim they couldn't back up, but how does that misinformation make it all the way up to Underworld's official website?

Dear U/W friends, have you heard about Karl@Toolroom?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDSrEfUzTiM

btw... I love the idea with the live performances because that silly "big crowd staring at one man behind a laptop" experience is really annoying.

...that's not a tour.

It's not even a gig, much as their involvement is an exciting prospect.

Karl is barely on camera. They talk to eveyone they mentioned except him, also didn't show a clip of his set. I didn't mind the music otherwise, but don't watch this expecting to see/hear what he's singing.

So maybe it's ignorance on my part but where does Underworld fit into a festival for the 'YouTube generation'?

TheBang
07-31-2012, 08:14 PM
Are you saying they're old?

Resolute

I just think its peculiar. I guess they are part of a 'YouTube generation' but it's not something I'd ever have used to describe them.

jetpig

It's kind of a stretch, but they have been very big on digital distribution for a very long time, and they kind of helped to trigger the idea of web videos as actual content from an artist. I hope that this festival does something like a live web stream or something, as part of their 'celebration of the youtube generation.' If they were to, it'd make a fair bit more sense why Underworld would want to be a part of it (and maybe just some wishful thinking on my part).

In the first issue of Electronic Magazine, there's an Underworld interview. At the end of the interview, they ask about post-Olympics plans:

Karl Hyde, though, opens up on one plan.
"We will be taking a very different live show out," he says eagerly. "A show that no one will have seen since we've come together. Of things that I think people will have been wanting Underworld to do for a long time..."

Champiness

Underworld are: Kris Burton, Malcolm Corbett, Steven Hall, Karl Hyde, Geoff Jukes, Anis Marks, Darren Price, Danielle Short, Rick Smith, Robin Turner.

What?!?
MK X lineup. There's gonna be a lot of people onstage at the next gig.

And you all thought I was kidding.

You think they'll be wheeling out an ambient show at a festival explicitly for the "Youtube Generation"?

So this has them playing a gig on 7th of September in Ibiza, Spain. Not sure if it's a trustworthy source, though, as I can't find ANY other info to back it up.

OK, I think I found out what's up. It looks like that they were initially or tentatively scheduled for Sept. 7 at Space Ibiza, back in early July. Here are a couple posts from back in July:

http://www.spotlight-forums.com/showpost.php?p=1426591&postcount=14
http://www.clubbingspain.com/phpBB/pasados/6-julio-2012-opening-beat-raw-en-space-ibiza-t80330.html

Given that we're so close to the date, and it doesn't show up on either Space Ibiza or uwlive, I think it's safe to say that it's off, for whatever reason.
