So this is confirmed? Is that the official link to buy tickets thru?
If there arent going to be any Canada shows then I am all over this one!

They are going to sound fantastic @ the 9:30 club! Saw them back in 1999 there. That show was my first underworld experience, unforgettable!!! Got my tickets, can't wait.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I'm new to the Dirty Forum, but I've been a long time Underworld fan since the mid 90's. :)

I'd have made the drive to DC in a HEARTBEAT if the show wasn't on a Monday followed by the NY show being a Wednesday.

No way I can swing both those shows on weekdays. :(

I'm feeling daring. $45 is not a bad price. Seeing as I'm going to Moog Fest the weekend directly after this Monday Underworld Show it would be perfect timing to go so I can get my days off at work grouped together. I feel like taking the train, the club itself is beside Howard University, almost literally in the center of DC.

Madness

How many plan on going?

Alright,

For real...

Who's going to this show?
I live 500 miles away, the cheapest way for me is to drive, and none of my roommates want to go and I know almost no one who listens to Underworld. So if I go, it's gonna be solo and having some Dirts to meet up with at the show would be nice but if not, I can try mingling at the show because honestly I've never been to an UW show, this venue is small (capactiy of 1,200 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_9:30_Club and Massive Attack played here? shit buyin my ticket tonight!) so getting to know people shouldn't be hard. I wonder what we're like, UW fans, lol.

But For real....anyone?

i'm going by myself also.. and it's a long drive for me too..
should be fun though..

If I could magically relocate the DC gig to Chicago, I would, even if it'd mean I miss out; it's been far too long since they've put in a midwest appearance!

Flying out from Colorado for this show...can't wait! Matthew dear is playing the night before at DC9 too.

Hope to see some change up in the playlists for the US leg of the tour. What happened to UW identifying themselves as an improvisational live act? Not too sure why we keep seeing the same tracklisting over and over. They have gained the much-deserved reputation over the past 15+ years as being one of the best live acts in electronic music because of their consistent creativity and ability to draw from such a deep catalog of music. What the heck changed?

so, does anyone want to meet up for a drink/coffee before the show?

im leaving monday morning around 7am assuming it'll take about 9-10 hours to get there. I bought the parking ticket for their parking there at the 9:30 club which opens about 6PM.

i'd love to finally meet some dirts, i never have

I think our flight doesn't get in until an hour or so before then; gonna be a scramble to get from DCA to hotel to club in time. Speaking of which, anyone hear anything yet on who might be opening?

i just spoke to someone at the club.
no one is yet scheduled to open.

no one is yet scheduled to open.I wonder if that means no opener and UW plays right at showtime?

In any event, probably a good idea not to get there too late. :)

I'll be at the DC show with my wife and a whole entourage. Most likely I will not be able to meet up before hand due to work obligations. Will be arriving shortly after doors open. Look forward to seeing you Dirts there.

good show..
loved 'dirty epic' at the end..

i'm tired after driving for 12 hours... so i'll talk about
it more in a little while..

sure it was pretty similar to other shows.. but at this
point, can you blame them? they wanted to push the
new tracks, and to their credit the breaks between songs
was pretty short..

historical fact : it's been almost 11 years since they were last here,
-------
http://uwlive.rowla.com/gigs/view/150

it was my first underworld show ever !!! boy do i remember that one..
a lot has changed.. those 20 somethings (not me) are now in their 30's...
and a whole new crowd has discovered them in that time..

overlapping songs from that show : rez/cowgirl / born slippy.nuxx / king of snake
back then they were pushing 'beacoup fish', so that show had 6 songs from that
album...but not moaner !

I was hoping to hear Juanita, but Moaner was too good.

chrisatwork
10-26-2010, 01:36 PM
definitely downpipe.
I'm a little baffled at the universally positive response to the show, though. pretty clearly they were working out kinks. at times the sound was terrible-- during king of snake, for example, it was like the top half of the mix was missing-- you couldn't hear the trebly part that of course in this song carries the entire melody! other songs just did not sound punchy-- dirty epic was great to hear of course, but it sounded incredibly muddy/indistinct compared to the last time I heard it (atlanta about 18-20 months ago).
plus, the crowd... so hard to figure out. the way they reacted to nuxx but (for example) not Two Months made it seem like an audience with little knowledge of the canon, just a taste for what they heard on the radio once upon a time. on the other hand, second-best reception was for rez/cowgirl, which clearly shows it was a crowd of great discernment and taste (:)). (sorry. they agreed with me in thinking it was the high point of the evening so they must be smart!) no, seriously, there was some energy, but only at points, and generally not nearly as much as other UW shows I've seen.
and... really sorry about this... I just don't see that Karl has quite as much confidence in the new material as he did even when they toured OWB. I kind of felt for him at moments, thinking he felt like he had to work real hard to sell it....
I don't know. hopefully ny and points west will see better shows. I was a little underwhelmed.

Lee MD

The DC crowd can be disappointing at any show. I did notice a bunch of people just standing about, but too bad for them. I was up in the front and grooving throughout so I didn't notice the shortcomings with the sound, but this was my first UW show so I was out of my head anyway. Karl did mention on the UWlive.com site that they were jetlagged so that might explain things with the performance.

hey- can someone who was there tell me what time UW came on, what time doors opened, etc? Trying to figure out about tomorrow in NYC.

bas_I_am
10-26-2010, 06:19 PM
pretty clearly they were working out kinks. . . I was a little underwhelmed.

I was as well. . . noticed the sound problems. though not sure if it was the mix or programming difficulties -
patches not triggering
tempos mistimed
queues missed

Am I crazy or did it seem like it took a few bars for them to get the speed correct on nuxx?

-1Maybe its time to look at the 1999 tour and see what the setlists were and in which order. they managed to play at least 6 tracks from the album without playing them in the same order every night, and managed to mix it up with other tunes. and that was a BIG tour. i'll browse the gigography later. mike deserves an award for the site btw.
