Just saw this today and thought I would get the thread going. I am trying to remember if "Simmonscourt" means indoor or outdoor... but I am presuming from the time of year that it will be indoor. Its an OK arena - WAY bigger than Tripod where they played last time. Just wish they had played there again, I suppose they are going for the big audiences this time!

Anyone going too?

I'll be there. With a gang. :) I notice Jim Carroll on the Irish Times music blog described Simmonscourt as the second worst venue in Dublin, with the Academy 2 being worst.

I know its a makeshift dump of a venue.. wonder why they chose to play there.. you can find canyons with better sound than Simmonscourt...

...my number one worst would be the concrete box that is the National Stadium (Boxing) - what a sad excuse for a music venue

Tickets for this went on sale today for anyone interested. I've got mine. :)

Bad news is it was €39.95 + €4.95 Ticketmaster "service" charge...

Got my tickets too! Delighted they're playing but agree on the worries re the RDS, plenty of better venues around but fingers x'd it will be fine!

Hey Dunwho,

Just read your post on UW at Electric Picnic - really enjoyed it! I was in the same boat - bought tickets the minute I saw UW were playing. There was a real buzz in the tent that night, a good mix of hardcore fans and happy festival peeps. I can still remember getting shivers when they kicked off with Spoonman :D and it just got better and better from there on in. Pure euphoria!

Let's hope we get something remotely close at the RDS.....

Yea such an epic experience really.. I am hoping they can get some good sound out at the RDS.. just hope the crowd are in the same high spirits as they were at EP!

Going to pick a pub to meet some mates in before the gig - I'll post it up here and hopefully some of you can come along too.

It's down on the RDS site as being on in hall 8C, which holds in excess of 6,000 people.

That can't be right?

Well i presume it is going to be in the same indoor area ive seen nearly every gig there.. and its a pretty big room if i remember... kinda cavernous... and the sound isnt great...

Are you suprised at the size being too big or too small??

Cus i have a feeling they are struggling to sell tickets to this..

Here is the floor plan... http://www.rds.ie/index.jsp?p=102&n=129

Yeah. On the Oblivion tour it was two sold out nights in Tripod (The second one tagged on after good initial sales). What does Tripod hold, maybe 1,200 tops?

To be honest I'm amazed there hasn't been a venue change at this stage (I have no idea how it's selling) unless the hall can be seperated/divided.

Really strange choice of venue

The Manchester and Glasgow gigs the two night before are in venues with less than 2,000 capacity each, so it is really strange that they'd try for 6,000 in Dublin. I know they're popular here in Ireland, but still...

Interesting looking at the potential door revenue (not the same thing as Underworld's fee obviously) for each gig too:

Manchester 1,500 x £22.50 = £33,750
Glasgow 1,900 x £22.50 = £42,750

Dublin 6,000 x £33.70 = £202,200

Something seems wrong here. I'm guessing they're using a smaller capacity room in the RDS than Hall C.

Support acts for Dublin are Japanese Popstars and Shit Robot btw.

Im on the case right now... my Girlfriend works at a ticketmaster outlet

EDIT: She says there are "A good few" left..

Not too crazy bout the support acts but the Jap Popstars would actually draw in their own support if they publicised it a bit on ticketmaster and RDS site... but still i would prefer a smaller venue and preferably Tripod because of the incredible sound quality in the place... it was epic last time..

I have a feeling they are hoping the success of the Electric Picnic gig would pull in the same crowds if not more..that went so well and it had more than 6000 in that tent i am sure...

Any word on stage times for this one?

philth

Shit Robot - 7.30 (Doors open)
Japanese Popstars - 8.15 (via Twitter)

I'm guessing Underworld will be on at 9.30 then.

UNDERWORLD DISCUSS FORTHCOMING RDS WAREHOUSE PARTY

23 Nov 2010

When Underworld requested to go back to their roots and do a show in a quirky warehouse type project for Dublin, the classic warehouse feel and character of the RDS left no challengers .

Underworld Release ;
"We want to bring an old Skool Party vibe on our next tour and re create the magic of when we first took to the road . Along with showcasing our New Album , Which we are very exited about , We plan to bring in a bit of Nostalgia and take a trip down Memory Lane to bring us back to the early warehouse parties . When we saw the pictures of the RDS , We felt it was a perfect fit and the production for this tour will absolutely set this classic style venue off . "

The Production team have gone all out for this show to make it a very special occasion and have come up with some very clever ideas to turn the RDS , Simmoncourt into a time capsule of the Ware house parties of the 80's and 90s glory years of Dance Music .

Fantastic, really looking forward to this gig now - should be a great setup seen as its the last gig of the tour.

Lets hope they drop a few of the older classics, to go with the old skool vibe.

all the best

Jesus, its been snowing here all morning, this is not looking good for my drive up from Waterford to Dublin this evening!! Typical the one day I want to travel to Dublin and the country comes to a stand still.

Lets hope team Underworld can make it over from Scotland.

Tonight - the last show of a long tour that’s taken us around the world - kicked-off in Oz & touch-down amongst the Celtic tribes that have always shared ecstatic joy. Even in these troubled times the desire to step into the light & celebrate can not be quashed. Come & dance with us & put the fears on the wolf tonight. Goodvibes to you & all your families.

BRING IT ON!

guys I'm gutted, we (the wife & myself) decided not to travel at the last minute...

Roads are really too icy here, with worse weather forecast for later when we'd have to travel back after the gig. Also, the misses is 5 months pregnant - so we didn't want to chance faith :(

Ah well, the only consolation is we seen Underworld at the HMV forum a few weeks back and they were brilliant.

I really hope you all have a super night.. no doubt you will, party on :)

dude i am so sorry you wernt able to get up here. In fairness it was a good call because shortly after the show it started snowing again and we are still waiting for it to stop... its at about a foot now.. havin great criac making snow men.

The show was good... managed to get a setlist at the end..

They played Skyscraper after Downpipe and finished with Dirty Epic and Moaner.. sadly no PG.. but they had a "strict curfew" as is writen on something stimpee picked up.. but it was a good gig.. sounded great and it had a real RAVE buzz about it. Sadly there were a bunch of pill heads wrecking the buzz by hanging off everyone and being generally annoying. but other than that it was pretty great... i have some pics uploading now.. will link it here..

Great to hear it was a super gig - delighted everyone had a ball :)
I'll have just have to keep my unused tickets as a reminder of the day snow & Underworld came to Ireland, and the snow won :(

Anyway, nice post today to finish on:

I really feel sorry for you guys who couldn´t be there just because of the weather. What a pity! And it was the last show and everything..
Btw the post today is sad in a way but it seems like Karl is happy. I hope we will see and hear more from them soon and not only read posts on UWlive henceforth.

So, while watching this video, I realized that this Skyscraper was actually another Darren Price dubplate special. Much like the King of Snake/The Secret mashup the month before in Tokyo, this performance was Skyscraper elements over Simone Arcangeli - Scorpia:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfiQc7DO-Og

They also performed the same thing the night before at Glasgow Barrowlands:
