Would have posted this sooner, but i've been busy! Last weekish i went to see Athlete[kill me now] with my dad and brother. We came in and someone was there producing this gorgeous stuff from a very odd looking instrument. Anyway we paid attention whilst going to the bar and getting vastly ripped off, as you do;)
Anyway, i thought i recognised him from samples some people have put up from him over the years.I was really happy to discover i had been watching Magnet for half an hour and then rushed to a record shop the next day to get something by him. Man, he's such a talented blole!
Anyone else seen a band/act by accident and grown to love them?

six. by seven. sort of. they were supporting Placebo (*ahem*) and i'd never heard of them. i sought out a couple of tracks off their album before the gig (back in the days of Napster and dial-up connections - 33kbps) and thought little more of it. then their support slot blew me away. next chance i got i bought their album - The Closer You Get - and it was great.
i finally got to see them live again about 3 years later, after they'd lost two fifths of the band and released one mediocre record (and one ok-ish one., that i didn't hear until after the show). they were ok, but they had a LOT to live up to

firing squad or hanging, sir...........suits you :D however i too have had to endure seeing athlete live with the wife earlier this year, although my attempts to pretend i was enjoying it were short-lived when a friend of hers starting talking about her other favourite bands "coldplay, keane, travis, dido, david gray" and stupidly asked me what i thought:eek: i can't remember exactly what i said, but apparently it was too complimentary and said woman now thinks i more than a little weird, which is a badge of honour in my book:D

anyways i saw the smashing pumpkins play brixton academy back in 93 and they were supported by The Verve who were just called Verve then. Never knew a thing about them, but fell in love with their sound there and then, and next day bought their first 3 singles, which arguably contain some of their most sonically interesting work
also saw the kills support franz ferdinand last year and i adore their 'good ones' single, shame the rest of their stuff doesn't match it in quality, although to quote my mate "she's well fit, gourgeous in fact, well if you find that smackhead look sexy"

Saw Noel Gallagher doing a solo acoustic support for Paul Weller and thought he was quite brilliant and since then i've especially enjoyed his solo stuff that you hear in the radio occasionally.
Also, wandered stoned into a dance tent at one the earlier V-festivals in anticipation of Leftfield and ended up watching Death in Vegas who were great and i've loved them ever since.
Alternatively, I accidently saw a couple of numbers by the shiteness who were supporting Alice Cooper and realised they were even worse than i thought - a truly dreadful experience............

ndrwrld and I went especially to see Evil Nine at The Guvernment in Toronto in March. Caught Atomic Hooligan followed by Bassbin Twin. Blown away. Evil Nine came on next and started up with some hippity hop thing at the beginning that ended up turning us off so we left. We ended up kicking ourselves for missing Evil Nine, but fell totally for Atomic and Bassbin.
