There will be an album at some point right? I say this mainly in reference to TOMATO artwork. Just making sure.

Just an edited version of Lenny Penne and a repeat of the track from 2 weeks ago, but nice all the same. Good to know about the download project.

editted? i would say cut way short, Tong style.

other than that, i am super excited about new music. its gonna feel quite weird not to be able to purchase an album though. something nice about hearing/holding the 10 or so select songs that 'made the cut' but im up for the listening challenge !!

like, what have i missed? a download only album? 150 tracks? sounds a bit "whack". in a bad way. no real need for out-takes etc..

or have i totally took this outta proportion?

Hey I dont mind 150 tracks, for the record.

King of Snake
11-04-2005, 12:47 PM
I don't mind either, but I'm wondering if a lot of these won't be just ideas and sketches rather than proper tracks. They presented Lenny Penne as a new track on radio one just now and all it is a drumloop with Karl saying "vision come on" on top of it for three minutes.
Sure it's nice, and it works in the context of the liveshow, but it's not really a "track" is it?

I'd personally like to see an official album release on CD and have all the other work that didn't make the album available for download, but since I didn't hear what Karl said, I'm still not sure what's going on.

karl said that the download project would begin at underworldlive.com on monday.

that they would still be releasing products that you can pick off shelves, because he loves shopping for music himself.

what i found equally good to hear was that they've now got a 3-hour show!!!

Ok here it is, 3 files in one zip. The interview, JAL to Tokyo (aka Electronic 1/Bang The Poll) and a studio version of Lenny Penne. Its on MegaUpload.com so it will be there for 30 days after someone last downloaded it.

LINK (10.5mb zip) (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EV2SB3BT)

Please bear in mind that BBC Radio One streams are 32kbps 44.1khz Stereo Real Audio which is probably between 48 and 64kbps mp3. The files in the zip are volume boosted edited 128kbps mp3.

Enjoy.

For Megaupload stuff, you have to get a DL ticket...click Stimpee's link, and watch the timer in the upper right...wait like 45 seconds and the real link appears.

Thanks again, Stimpee for the music hook-up!

Could be that it's just growing on me, but "JAL to Tokyo" (aka Electronic Part 1) in the higher kbs format sounded better all around...nice vocal fade out, too!

From what I picked up from the interview:

"We still want to make physical things. I'm a record junkie. I like going out and cruising the stores and buying stuff off the racks. This is just an initial sort of way of working where we can speed up the process. Once the things finished, to be able to make it available. I've done 25 years of waiting to be scheduled."

To me, it sounds like the "150" tracks are going to be more like sound tidbits than complete finished songs. Like Karl said, this is just the INITIAL way of working, and from the sounds of it, a proper record will be released in the future. Maybe he's using this as sort of a sounding board? Throwing it up against the wall to see what sticks? See what the fans like more, and then assemble a record out of that?

I dunno. I love Underworld, but 150 tracks just sounds a bit much. I can't imagine that all 150 are going to be of "Pearls Girl" or "Dirty Epic" greatness. I would rather see them trim the fat and get something really solid out.

I bet you won't sign the 'open the lemon vaults' petition then? :(

Because they work on their laptops while traveling etc, swapping projects back and forth, there may well be a lot of finished songs. I think that's what they're going to put online. I think that is great. But ofcourse, there'll be things not everybody likes.

i think that's a great idea! Not only will the die-hard dirties get their hands on all the bits and pieces, you'll get a reaction to what people most want to hear reworked or left as-is. This, along with test-driving tracks on the road or with DJs (Daz in the old days, BBCers and maybe Pricey now), is a cool way to get input.

Though i'm in now way saying anything i create is musically on-par with UW, but i have found that just burning tracks i'm working on and giving CDs to friends to demo is a great way to get critical feedback and essentially "Step away" from projects i get too close to to hear mistakes!

Anyway, many MANY thanks to Rick and Karl for entrusting the fans with this pretty cool task!

yeah, but remember all the garbage they had us listening to waiting for AHDO...nothing really from the cd except that sound installation one with the opening bleeps of Mo Move....and the spoken word stuff (hope there's less Juanita on this one..I mean come on, yikes.)

If "Vision C'Mon" and (RRRoOoooBoT NOisES) is all we got then we gotta get Karl back on the boose and hard shit!!!:p;)

Exactly...

I'd LOVE to have them open the vaults, it would be incredible to really see how they construct tracks and so forth

like - it'd love to have a proper album of like 10 tracks, and then all the bits and pieces (even if most aren't really relevant to the final 10)

for instance, how cool was it to see that one video with just the bleepy intro of Mo Move, and a hint of a bassline (DA3D) - or the 'hard version' of Sola Sistem?

woa

...I totally didn't see that comment before I posted!

HOW CAN YOU DISS JUANITA? I loooooove her voice
but seriously, man....

I am totally psyched about the 150+ songs... I just wonder if they'll all be from this newer period, or if some of the older stuff will come out too...

like the aforementioned U2/UW deal... even if it's missing bono's vocals (due to like copywrite things) or the STITI outtakes... (esp as Bruce Lee came from that too...)

It's gonna start THIS monday, right?

was only joking of course....I myself am a recovered alcoholic and I know the hell that stuff brings. No one wants to see Karl's life go down the toilet. But on the other side of the same coin, I think that Karl would have never been able to "write the classics" without.

Touched on a nerve I suppose....:(
