While dirty was gone, I recorded a new mix for everybody to check out. It's minimal/micro/electro house kind of stuff, and mostly showcases artists that have played (or who are upcoming guests) of the monthly techno party I'm a part of: Broadcast San Diego (http://www.broadcastsd.com ) It's called 'Backroom' and can be downloaded >>Here<< (http://www.losttransmission.com/backroom.html).

There are some of my other mixes available for d/l here: http://www.losttransmission.com/mixes.html

Lets see what you all have for us! :)

By the looks of it; very nice mixes, i like the concepts.

However, cant you just mut all the tracks of a certain mix in a .zip file? Downloading 30 individual files isn't one of my favorite pass times.

I have 2 mixes of my self, but i am not sure if i dare post them :( ...

EDIT: oh why the hell not:

http://mijnaccount.herejezus.nl/FileDir/Icke%20-%20Beuck.mp3
http://mijnaccount.herejezus.nl/FileDir/Icke%20-%20Elecktro.mp3

Please note that i am by no means a professional dj, i just mixed some tunes together because it is nice to something different with music instead of just listening it.

They are also works in progress, I already made a 80 minute-edit of Elecktro and i intend to chop both mixes up in seperate tracks, for easy listening when i'm on vacation.

I am downloading a mix right now. I am not sure if you did this already, but you could include the tracklist .txt and artwork as well.

EDIT: I just got you DFA mix and see that you thought of including the tracklist and images  .

B. Miller...very nice work on the mixes! i like the themes and titles a lot, and it sure looks like a lot of work went into it. Just one question: what's with all the Rapture in the DFA mix?

thanks for the kind words. i'm in no way a dj so these mixes were just things that seemed right at the time.

the rapture and lcd soundsystem and dfa remixes that saturate that one mix is pretty much just because i had found out about them all at the same time and was listening to all that stuff nonstop and i just wanted to make a mix of it all where the songs went like i wanted them too, plus i had some ideas i wanted to try out like billie jean/beat connection and thriller/whatever that prodigy thriller song is called... so you know, lots of rapture, lots of dfa.... oh well i guess :)

ok, so here's a mix that I made earlier this year.

www.dirty.org/~shane/DeepMix.mp3

it's been posted here before, but I don't think that we had a specific thread for it.

it's one big track. I am going to see if I can dig up the track list. the music is really deep, glitchy techno. i know the first song is murcof and the last song is villalobos. the rest is a haze. it was my first trials with tracktor.

enjoy. this one's definately for late night.

Another mix, this one's the newest. This is a mix I did of my favorite tracks to listen to while driving at night, especially along the freeway. It's a collection of house tracks. Minimal, dreamy, thumpin tracks from a variety of sources.

There are tracks in here which I don't know the names of, and a section of three tracks in the middle which are from Hernán Cattáneo's South America CD. Keep in mind this mix was made for my enjoyment.

I should have mislabeled that track title with some made up artist, then you wouldn't have known and definitly not cared about anything but the music.

It's also one of the ONLY yanni tunes I can enjoy.

Sorry, i'm in the same boat with uploading... a typical 60-70 minute mix that i do runs about 80 MB, and i haven't the webspace :(

How long will things like Rapidshare or Yousendit host your upload?

Riko
07-21-2005, 08:06 AM
i think yousendit will host the file until it's downloaded 25 times or something like that. so theoretically you could keep uploading it there and editing the link whenever you hit that limit. i used to do that sometimes, until i set up my own site.

patrick
07-21-2005, 06:17 PM
yousend it cancels after 25 times or soemthing or like a few gigs downloaded, which ever happens first. i forget the gig size, but i am pretty sure it might be simply a gig a byte

ok - here's a mix I did after well... it was a long night
it's also pretty much 'part two' of a previous mix I had made... but I don't think I can share that mix quite yet - I had submitted it to a contest, and one of the rules was that it couldn't be publically available

I consider this 'part two' b/c the first one was pretty heavily based around movie samples I had recorded. This one has them too... but not quite as much as well - it was the end of a 'long night'

tracklisting
Something I Can Never Have (soundtrack version) - Nine Inch Nails
Just Shoot Him - Cliff Martinez + Movie Dialogue "Jacob's Ladder"
2thousand3 [feat. Tricky] - Agoria
Movie Dialogue 'Memento"
Less Stress - Evil Nine
First Day (Extended Mix) - Timo Maas
Follow The White Rabbit - Habersham
Starwater (Its Alright) - Infusion
Hello? Is This Thing On? (Thomas N' Eric's Rub and Tug Throwdown) - !!!
Movie Dialogue 'Memento"
Likgiltligheten (inte likgiltig mix by plosive) - Partikel
Bring Yourself (Off Again) - Meat Katie
Impedance (Meat Katie + Dylan Rhymes Remix) - Serge Santiago
Electromagnetic (Evil Nine Broadway Dub) - Freeform Five
Bright Lights Fading (Alex Smoke Mix) - Slam
Mana (Elite Force Remix) - Shiloh
Let it All Out - Forme
My Little Dancing Girl - Meat Katie
Raining Again (Evil Nine Remix) - Moby
Chew's Eye Lab - Vangelis

hopefully - this link will work, yousendit won't work for me anymore!

Hey all,

just a quick question...what's everyone using as a source for their mixes here? Strictly vinyl, or any CD or mp3s in there?

Reason i ask is, some people are purists about mixes, like...it's gotta be with turntables or if on a laptop, it's gotta be on the fly, or whatever. I'm no DJ, more the producer, so i like to make long edits/mixes on the PC. Is this cheating? :p Certainly, lots of respect to all those who can do it on the fly...my beatmapping needs more work!

Just wanted to know if that was okay before i posted a "nonlive" mix!

Cheers,
Holden

viddy

All of my mixes are first put together with a pair of dj CD decks just to find the right order for the tracks, but then I mix the tracks together with effects in Acid Pro 5. I would do live beatmatched mixes because it's a lot more fun, but I don't really have the approprate equipment.

Of course it's ok! It's all music maaaaaaaaaaaan. I have nothing but respect for anybody who can concentrate long enough to do an off-line mix. I keep trying to make one but just can't summon up the patience to sit there and do it. And if the final product sounds good, that's all that matters, isnt it?

My mixes are entirely done with Ableton 5.
I pick the tracks, then put warp-markers to each of it (sometimes it's easy, sometimes nigh impossible) and then mix the tracks together while recording the whole session.
and i can tell you: it's still not easy. when you have correct warp markers, it will help you with the beatmatching, but that alone doesn't make a mix.

i am in the process of upping my latest live 5 mix as well....but it's different than eiks style....i broke all the songs into loops..separated their intros, outros, builds, phrases etc....and then triggered them in real-time and rearranged them somewhat. also, i keep reason running so i can add hats and pads when i needed them. it's 36 minutes long and a fun experiment. most times, there are at least 3 "songs" playing.

I met Dean Decosta in Seattle a few years ago. He played one of the most interesting techno set's I'd ever heard at the time. It changed alot for me--sort of a "wakeup". He then was playing this Luciano 12" that I could only remember by the color of the record. My friend and I searched it down. Good fun.

and thanks btw.

Here’s a new mix that’s got no mashups, little dance music and only a small amount of actual mixing. It’s more a collection of songs than a mix, really. I call it Personal Stash because the tunes are mostly old favorites of mine. Not typical mix material for me, but in most cases it’s stuff I’ve listened to for years. It’s not for everyone, but I love it.

PLEASE NOTE: This mix is not suitable for children and probably isn’t work safe. It contains VERY BAD language –- and I do mean very, very bad –- though it’s mostly contained to one song. It also has songs featuring commentary about whether children born to interracial couples are more susceptible to crack attacks. And songs with speculation as to whether Pablo Picasso was ever called an asshole. And songs with statements that seem to condone or promote drug use. And songs with depictions of God as having something of an attitude. And songs featuring a tuba, flute and/or french horn section.

>>>>DJ Riko - Personal Stash<<<< (http://www.djriko.com/music/DJ%20Riko%20-%20Personal%20Stash.mp3) (78MB, 58 minutes, 192 kbps)

Mercury Rev – Something For Joey
My Bloody Valentine – Emptiness Inside
Big Stick – Crack Attack
Flash and the Pan – Midnight Man
MC 900 Foot Jesus – Born With Monkey Asses
William Shatner – Together
Adam Ant – Here Comes the Grump
Great Lakes – Virgil
jennyanykind – You Better Get Right With God
Yo La Tengo – Drug Test
Magnetic Fields – Take Ecstasy With Me (Susan Anway vocals)
Beach Boys – Feel Flows
Bostich – Polaris
Burning Sensations – Pablo Picasso

didn't D/L this yet, but i gotta ask...is this "Hey Girl Hey Boy" or something rare i'd not heard before? i'm thinking the former, as in "hey boy, hey girl, superstar DJs, here we gooo!"

the tracklist jumps because the mix "ends" with the Melt Water song, then there are 4 tracks of silence totalling 45seconds, then Sleep by BFC comes on...it was a conceptual "hidden track" type thing...i didn't encode the 4 tracks of silence but if you want the proper experience, burn to disc but between the 11th and 16th song, add 45second space.

i added a couple of older mixes to my music page. Deep Deep is the same as the mix i posted earlier in this thread, but had to take down to make some room. the Polar Frequencies mix is a hybrid of Biznotic playing records, but running it all through my virus and effects, while i control the FX mad professor style. it's really dubby, and a bit "ambitious" ....but an interesting ambient/deepdubby techno mix nonetheless.

i've been playing around with Traktor DJ studio since october so i am a noob at this mixing thing (the more i tried to fix the shoddy parts of the mix the worse it sounded).

i'm sharing this one mainly cuz i like the part of the mix that transitions to Born Slippy (pure luck...cuz i tried mixing it again and i couldnt get it to line up)

playlist:

Superpitcher : Tell Me About It
The Stone Roses : I Wanna Be Adored (Luna Sols Acid Hacienda Mix)
Depeche Mode : Precious (Misc. Full Vocal mix)
Cut Copy : Saturdays (Kingroc remix)
VHS or Beta : Night on Fire (Cut Copy Mix)
Rex The Dog : I Look Into Mid Air
Underworld Jumbo (Jedi Sugar Hit mix)
Codec & Flexor : Beat Me
The Bravery : Honest Mistake (Superdiscount remix)
Underworld : Born Slippy (Darren Price remix)

Message to people using this thread: you may want to create your own thread for each mix that you do as this one is getting quite big and it will be easier for you to track comments on your mix. I would split the thread into separate threads for each mix already in this one but i cant be bothered :D

ok - so I wanted to try and do something a bit more 'different' than what my sets have been recently... which I just realized that I haven't posted here  (I'll upload the other two mixes later - which on the UNKLE forum, have actually gotten some good reviews)

so yea - I made a three cd set as a christmas gift for some of my friends, and the other two discs weren't necessarily straight 'dance' mixes - like they could just as easily be 'headphones' mixes as driving / going out stuff

and as it's for a present, I want to make sure this cd sounds tight - so any recommendations on what I need to fix, let me know... I'm not sure if everything blends very well next to each other... and I"ll probably end up re-doing this mix anyways

here's the tracklisting:
(intro) + Comtron - Evil OS[tm]
Serge Santiago - Answer to 8am (Demo)
Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five - The Message (pt. 2)
Timo Maas - First Day (extended mix)
Sharam Jey - Push Your Body - John Dahlback Remix
David Gilmour Girls - Crackhousewarmingparty
Adam Freeland - Heel n' Toe (Evil Nine Remix)
Liquid Liquid - Flextone (DJ Twitch Optimo Edit)
Lee Coombs, Grant Plant - Black Elk Speaks (Dub Mix)
Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc (Stanton Warriors Mix)
Tomas Andersson - Washing Up (Tiga Mix)
PFN - Make a Move
Kraftwerk - Tour de France (Kervorkian Mix)
the Egg - Wall (Atomic Hooligan Mix)

hey - thanks for the compliment...

I was trying to 'make my own sound' so to speak with that mix, you know - to set myself apart from other dj's and whatnot - in the hopes of some people noticing me... and possibly even getting a job out of it

I think I am going to re-do that other mix I posted, as that one kinda is more of a standard breaks-esque mix

http://www.losttransmission.com/music/q-style.mp3

Tracklisting:
Cybotron - Clear
Egyptian Lover - Egypt Egypt
Debbie Deb - Lookout Weekend
Freeze - A.E.I.O.U.
Planet Patrol - Play At Your Own Risk
Afrika Bambaata - Planet Rock
Cameo - Word Up
LA Dream Team - Is in the House
Technotronic - Pump up the Jam
Yaz - Situation
Babe Ruth - The Mexican (Jellybean remix)
Afro-Rican - Give it all you Got
Freestyle - Don't Stop the Rock

I grew up on a street with a lot of Mexican families. In the Mexican culture, it's traditional to throw a 'Quincenera' party for girls when they turn 15, kind of half debutant ball / half bat mitsvah. They'd always have huge piles of awesome food, and a norteno/banda band would play during the daytime. As night fell and people got drunker, inevitably somebody's cousin would set up his decks and play this 80's electro-funk stuff (this during mid-to-late 80's) This mix is an attempt at recreating some of that vibe.

Here is a new mix. It's all a bunch of really anthemic techno tunes, pretty much the polar opposite of what is currently hot in techno land. Around 01/02 (when 'Jaguar' and 'Diabla' were big) I could have sworn that this style would be the next big thing but it kind of fizzled, and electroclash kind of stole a bit of it's thunder. I really like all these tunes, but I normally wouldn't put them ALL in one mix, but instead sprinkle them in here or there. I did this mix to give to people who are normally into big-room trance and progressive etc, to try and sneak a booking and suject them to 'proper' techno. It hurt me but I refrained from putting any Detroit tracks on here. Also, as a change, I tried to keep the mixing really simple and unobtrousive. (still a pretty good fuckup on there though...aaagh.)

Anyway, without further ado:

Just finished a new remix for a local Long Beach DJ/rap group. Kind of minimalist music that I put behind the vocal tracks on this one, but I just got to a point where I thought, "this sounds finished". So anyway, I did all except for the vocals, which were kindly donated by Polyester and Freshchuckdaily. Follow the link in my sig and listen to the newest track on there, "Whatever You Do (Grandbrother Does Something Mix)". Hope you like it!

It's amazing how technology and the internet has changed. Three years ago a thread like this would have died a slow death from the lack of people downloading. It seemed like only 1 or 2 people out of every 10 had a broadband connection.

Now it seems like everyone has broadband connectivity. I've been waiting three years for a thread like this! :)

seeing as i've heard some cool mixes from this thread, i decided that it was time to give back!

i have here a fun 35 minute mix that i recorded live while djing this past weekend at 'inferno' here in madison, wi (www.clubinferno.com (http://www.clubinferno.com%29)). i've had a regular night there for the past 3 years now and we mostly cater to the industrial/goth crowd.

while djing with my friend dj :eyg: this past saturday, i took the opening time slot. since no one is really on the dance floor at that point, i ended up playing a set filled with songs i wanted to hear and that would probably scare off industrial/goth kids later on in the evening ;)

here's what's in the posted set:
dj koob (9:00pm - 9:30pm)
sia: breathe me (mylo mix)
coldcut: walk a mile in my shoes (henrick schwarz mix)
the knife: silent shout
switch: a bit patchy (instrumental)
yoshimoto: du what u du (trentemoller remix)
bloc party: banquet (boyz noize vox mix)
the rapture: woo! alright. yeah, uh-huh (simian mobile disco mix)

here's the link to the zipped mp3: http://mywebspace.wisc.edu/rmbannen/web/koob.zip
(i uploaded the file on jan. 23rd and will keep it there for at least a month. if the link is dead and you'd still like the file, send me a private message and i'll get it to you)

here's the link to everything else that i played that night: http://djkoob.livejournal.com/11670.html

hope that you enjoy it :D

Don't know what to call it (hence the title), but this is a song I've produced recently. It's Audio in Distress ft. Willy Wanka and his Bukkake factory. Audio in Distress is a mate and I and we're starting to produce electro/techno and other kind of electronic and/or Tanzfähige music.

Here (http://rapidshare.com/files/18766572/call_it_what_you_want_Rendered.mp3) and here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/4qf01k)

Please give me your honest opinion about the mixing/style/etc.

New remix up on the Grandbrother website (http://www.myspace.com/grandbrother). It's a remix of the parody track "I'm In Luv [Wit Muh Sister]" by Seamonkey (http://www.myspace.com/seamonkeymusic). Can't imagine a more perfect track for a "Grandbrother" remix. The version up on the site is not yet fully mastered, so it will be updated soon, but the track is basically completed. Enjoy!

EDIT - The track is now mastered and up in all it's finished-ness on the Grandbrother website (http://www.myspace.com/grandbrother)

Also, the EP featuring my remix is available for purchase here:

c) repetitive nu college rock twaddle?
d) geoff hirst

Got another new remix posted on the Myspace page. This time it's of Julie Dennis' track, "Cut To the Chase". The only thing that remains of the original version of the track is the vocals, so all the music, and all the production work on the vocals is original Grandbrother material. I've been wanting to work with some good female vocals for a long time, so this one was very satisfying to do. Wish I had a female vocalist to work with all the time and form a group with.

Enjoy!

EDIT - ANOTHER ONE! Okay, so there's also another new one uploaded to the Real World Remixed website that they've informed me will be added to their "hot picks" section as well. Yee-haw! Check it out:

Re: negative1's odd-n-ends mix:

First off, thanks for this...some classic and rare tracks in here. I've had a listen and have a few comments. Like you said, not the smoothest mix around but more about the fun of trying, so you're probably already aware of the good and the not so good.

Hard-hitting introductory track choice…excellent! The mix into Cups is a little bit messy in terms of beat-matching, and the “bong” sounds at the transition kind of accentuate the contrast rather than smoothing it out. I noticed a few skips in that track as well… I know that’s not your fault, but probably artifacts from the original radio broadcast or encoding, but those missing beats do catch my ears. I really love the early version of KoS (especially Karl’s deadpan delivery and alternate lyrics), but again, the transition is abrupt. The fade in to Silver Boots works much better, as does confusion the waitress. In fact, i think the mix steadily improves with time.

I have a mix you made of UW of studio bits and tracks from the old UWLive archive from several years back (I think it starts with Quick Bit of Rope?). That was very well done and still enjoyable. These odds-and-ends are quite cool to compile, but maybe not quite right for mixing, due to some of their short outtros or intros?

Looking forward to hearing your riverrun mix, too. Cheers!

Like this lots! That was an amazing radio show. I fondly remember the excitement of logging in that spring saturday (it was pouring in upstate NY), seeing the stream of webcam shots (hundreds of them!) and hearing the mad new renditions of "pearls girl", "momove", and of course the spoken "To heal and restore broken bodies", still giving me chills.

Great mix, sir! Just listened to your riverrun remix mix and this back-to-back. Great tunes for the afternoon!

Click here to listen! (http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/pxay/sotp_beacon)

Here is something I've been working on in Reason on my train rides to/from work. It is a deep dubby house/techno tune, influenced by Maurizio and Basic Channel and all that stuff, but maybe a little more dancefloor oriented. This (like all my tunes) was made to be used in my DJ sets so it may sound a little long and unchanging but it's meant to be heard in the mix with other tunes above/below it.

If anybody is interested I can also post the reason file so you can play with it.

what the heck. i'll post the other mix too. this one was done the night before the prev. mix posted. it's 1:45mins long, starts with some more house/disco stuff then progressively gets faster and more techy. the first mix is a bit rough since i was figuring out the levels and trying to get the hang of mixing in the headphones as opposed to using monitors + headphones combined.

anyway, hope you enjoy this. loads of great songs...

just an old fan mix i made
combining parts of .nuxx+orig
just to hear what it was like

interestingly enough, no pitch alterations
were made, no bpm manipulation or anything
else was made either..

it's a straight mix (although i editted
portions to overlap).. it works pretty
well, but near the end it gets really
busy..

maybe i'll revisit it later.. i made this a looooooooooong

I did this compilation for a class assignment. The assignment was to bring in only ONE song that represented a "good song" in my opinion. We are to play the song in class, and provide lyrics. Well, that's both cruel and impossible, so I made a compilation, and uploaded it to the ftp. On the lyric sheet, there will be the tracklist and the linky.

Here's my Contribution. For you younger peeps, there are some gems in here.

Disorder—Joy Division

I've been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand,
Could these sensations make me feel the pleasures of a normal man?
These sensations barely interest me for another day,
I've got the spirit, lose the feeling, take the shock away.

It's getting faster, moving faster now, it's getting out of hand,
On the tenth floor, down the back stairs, it's a no man's land,
Lights are flashing, cars are crashing, getting frequent now,
I've got the spirit, lose the feeling, let it out somehow.

What means to you, what means to me, and we will meet again,
I'm watching you, I'm watching her, I'll take no pity from your friends,
Who is right, who can tell, and who gives a damn right now,
Until the spirit new sensation takes hold, then you know,
Until the spirit new sensation takes hold, then you know,
Until the spirit new sensation takes hold, then you know,
I've got the spirit, but lose the feeling,
I've got the spirit, but lose the feeling.
Feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling.

hi.

we're navel. there's 2 of us. both been making music for a fair while, but never techno. until, last spring, we decided that there's not enough 'second toughest'-type techno in the world. ever since we've been working on an album to remedy that problem somewhat. about 40 minutes in now. the underworld influence is pretty obvious, but insofar we can judge we're no clones, fortunately.

if you're interested, here is one of our tracks: 'something curved' (http://www.eretsua.com/music/mp3/navel_-_something_curved_-_wip.mp3) (13:39 & 15.9mb).
tell us what we're doing right/wrong, and if you'd listen to an album full of this.

Hey, Just an update on my Website, music and Writing..photography too.

Every month i produce a number of songs individually which you can all keep up to date with on the website. At the end of the month i mix the songs together (sometimes more professionally than others) into a full 30min or so mix which is sort of like a riverrun i guess (tho nowhere near as good).

So as we mosey on into March i have updated the site to have the February mix (Hearing Aids) so if you are interested come on over and give it a listen...the other individual songs are there to listen to also..

The site is fairly new also so if you are not able to navigate easily and unable to find the music please let me know and i will try and make it easier ... its all a developing process which i need feedback for! thanks so much

Some of this stuff is brilliant... well constructed and produced.... and you're outputing at some rate . Kudos all round. You should be pitching this stuff and I hope you are.

Website is a bit fiddly and I can see some folks maybe getting a little lost but the players work really well. Would be easier for chumps like me to have the site and blog/news all together in one place.

Hey thank you for your kind words and ideas!

Yes i am aware that the site is a little fiddly and it would warm my heart to have the blog on the same page but i risk losing 3 years of blogging if i dont do it right so i have to take my time at that..
Ultimately the goal is to have one site with everything on it... because i am aware that at the moment i am splitting my potential in two by directing people to separate pages.

Im going to try to get the music more immediately available and easier to use. (Especially for the previous months which is a bit in the air) but because of the fact i am always updating it is hard to have so much content on the site at once without it taking an age to load up...also i dont want to overwhelm anyone with too much at once...

Your input has really helped me though.. i needed some to get my act together a little! Thanks

No mention of the awesome Blackbelt Andersen, Lindstrom or Todd Terje here I notice! Any chance of a full tracklisiting..?

Biz, your mix definitely sucks donkey balls.
And by that I mean it's great. Parts of it reminded me of that Cut Copy mix that was posted in the music forum a while ago (forgot the title).

I usually just stick to my own thread with updates but i recorded this new track live and i was fairly happy with the results so i thought i would give it a special mention... I think this is the best i have done in a while.

Would appreciate any opinions going on this...
