Buy the "Oscar See Through Red Eye" mp3
On Bleep's website for $1.35USD http://www.bleep.com/?label=boc
Orange!
There has also been another supposed new BOC track "Satellite Anthem Icarus" leaked, it sounds unmistakeably BOC. It's quite good.

That other leak is confirmed official... and it's better IMO than the single available for purchase. :)

I've now heard "Chromakey Dreamcoat" as well... sounds like BOC but fairly different equipment/programs/samples this time around - and the version I've heard is encoded at like, 48kbs, so there's probably a bit I'm missing. Use of guitar sample is fairly prevelant here. Track is a fair bit better than "Oscar See Through Red Eye" but not as good as "Satellite Anthem Icarus".
Not one child sample to be found yet either! :)
Interesting so far - I've never been a huge fan of their full lengths but pulling the gems out and arranging into a personal comp creates something magical. Well, I do like the 'Maxima' collection but that's not official...

Dammit I've been listening to "Satellite Anthem Icarus" all day. I loves it much.
May I ask where you've heard Chromakey Dreamcoat??
edit: nevermind I found it:)

Okay the non-fake album is starting to float around.
So far it sounds as though all the things I didn't like about 'Geogaddi' are gone (they seemed incapable of allowing a groove to be a groove on that record) and some of the things I like about BOC are back. Lots of new subtle ideas that work really well (the inclusion of guitar). Now that I've heard "Chromakey Dreamcoat" with proper encoding instead of the 48k radio show version I can say without a doubt the track is CLASSIC - at about :59 seconds the track opens up into the kind of expansive, wide-eyed soundscape that only this group seems capable of producing... the kind of collected sound that will have people who enjoy substances will listening to this group scrambling for anything to help them with the experience. :)
the new album is awesome - i've sadly got it (i say sadly because i so wanted to wait for the cd and artwork etc..).
Its got one of the most amazing tracks ive heard - dayvan cowboy, the drums that come in at around the 3 minute mark are sensational.
as scott says about Chromakey Dreamcoat, a classic.
In my opinion it has to be contender for the electronic, if not album, of the year.
I will certainly buy the CD but temptation became too much after hearing oscar see through red eye...

Agreed. Ever since I discovered this group I've been making my own albums from their work. :)
In my opinion its pretty much all beauty. I find each song has a particualr relevance to me. blah, i know.

You'll know you probably have the right one if...
Track 2 is "Chromakey Dreamcoat"
It is 5:47 long
It begins with a lone, echo-ey guitar line that goes:
High octave: high note, low note, high note x 4
Lower octave: high note, low note, high note x 4
Lowest octave: high note, low note, high note x 4
Back to the original octave and repeat

bloody magnificent
here is a list of the ones i like the most :
chromakey dreamcoat.
catchy melody. good stuff. not your usual BoC fare.
satellite anthem icarus.
sounds like zero7 remixed boards of canada. all it needs is sia's voice.
its so chill and really beautiful. (followed by a quick melodic piece which starts into)
peacock tail.
i really like this one alot. it has a nice flow to it, very relaxing mid-tempo beat with a shuffling timbale type going with it. and it builds and builds and builds and with every build it brings on good thoughts. a very positive, motivational song.
Dayvan Cowboy.
starts off sounding like a remix to peacock tail. the melodies are fluid with many other BoC-like songs of the past. Distorted guitars milling around you. winds blowing by you. the feel of walking through an empty farmland..yet in the distance you see something coming towards you. and then boom you get hit in the face with a GUITAR!! throw in a beat, some strings. and you got yourself the next soundtrack to be played at the next new auto presentation. good tune.
hey saturday sun.
what a cool fucking song. its very summery. too bad this release came out in the fall.
slow this bird down.
funky broken beat. works real well. sounds like it came from boc maxima.
tears from the compound eye.
the 70s never sounded so cool.
farewell fire.
sounds pretty sad. its like one of those short BoC melodies that goes a little longer than it should. followed by like 5 minutes of total silence. no hidden track it seems.

listen a lil' harder - the melody is ALWAYS there, best for headphones this track :)

my God i've been waiting for this! i'm buying this as soon as it gets out. Oscar See Through Red Eye is great. too lazy to try to download the rest..

Well I couldn't hold out and was fool to think I'd be able to. So far 4 tracks in and while there is an abscence of outright dumbfounded awe that I had upon hearing 'Music is Math' for the first time, this feels like a much safer approach to their sound. Should bring out a few new fans and tread them close to much in the dark but ever present Morcheeba fan base. I like the music, but fear how it will be accepted.
In the TV series Nathan Barley they used BOC music in my own interpreted perfect context, as background music for trendy arthouse retail stores. That mood is now gone altogether.

So a few weeks later this has definitely become a record I really, really enjoy. Perhaps not as much as 'Music...' or the 'Maxima' collection but definitely more than the initial listens I had of it - it definitely takes some warming up to.
Now I can't stop listening to it while I work. In that sense it has become a record that inseperable from a period of creative time in my life. Other great "working" records for me: 'Happy Music for Happy People' by Mogwai, the last Explosions in the Sky record, '76:14' by Global Communication and 'Vanishing Point' by Primal Scream.
I'll even go out on a limb and suggest that "'84 Pontiac Dream" is comparable to and the equal of the great "Rogybiv". Or, I should say that both tracks provide with a very similiar vibe.

I was going to wait until it came out but I was having a really strong craving for BoC so somehow I rationalized out why I need the new stuff today and not Tuesday.
I regret waiting.
Most of these tracks are freaking awesome, much better for the most part than Geogaddi. Like Scott said, they've rediscovered how to make their songs funk, and this is a good thing. Hey Saturday Sun has got to be one of the coolest tracks of the year, if not the coolest. And Satellite Anthem Icarus sounds like it lifted a riff from Neil Young's book, with very cool results. And you know, I'm loving how everyone has a different song they've mentioned because this album is really, really deep. There's not too many throwaway tracks on here at all, and this also is a good thing. This album is a good thing, for all those that have waited until now, you're in for a real treat.

Really good album, but it doesn't have the same BOC magic as before. None of the tracks are growers like they were on previous albums. I liked them all right away. This album seems a little too surface level to me.
But it's still Boards of Canada, and I still love it. :)

i actually liked it. i really think peacock tail, as simple as it is, is one of the best tracks they've made yet..
Does it have beats that I can listen to for an hour and only then figure out how it goes?
So, as there's been some time to listen to this record since its release: what do you think of it?
I finally have the correct release and I can say I enjoy it. The track that REALLY stands out for now is Peacock Tail, it's GORGIOUS! Can't yet understand what people really like about Chromakey Dreamcoat. It's not bad, but doesn't grab me yet. Though, the whole album is a grower for me, so it might come.
I like the fact that this is a bit softer and chillier, and indeed a bit more "groovy" than Geogaddi. Geogaddi is good, but I haven't been listening to it as much as I did to Music Has The Right To Children, because you just have to be in the right mood for Geogaddi.
I hope that in the future I can "figure out" the weird beats like I could with "Telephasic Workshop" and "Turqoise Hexagon Sun". Complex rhythms on which you have to concentrate to hear how it goes.
Anyway, what are your thoughts?

Its a nice album. Thats about as much as I can really say. Its entirely unremarkable in every way. Instantly forgettable but also harmless. I don't think i'll be buying it or even indeed bothering to listen to it again. I don't think i've had less to say about any major long awaited electronic album for a long time. Oh well.
