Anyone know the deal about why these streams can't be accessed around the globe like they used to be?
(At least we know going into this one thats its UK only though instead of sitting in front of the comp for 3 hours waiting and refreshing.)

I CONCUR, BUT IN ALL-CAPS FOR EMPHASIS.
Seriously. I can maybe understand for something like the iTunes festival where it was released partially as an EP, but there is really no excuse not to record this. Please all you UK dirts, do it for the rest of us!

Radio 1 isn't blocked worldwide (well at least not in the US; I just tried it), it's the video iplayer that doesn't work outside the UK. The webcam does not work, but the audio seems fine.
Anyone know the deal about why these streams can't be accessed around the globe like they used to be?
UK residents have to pay a licence fee if they own any device capable of receiving a TV signal, which funds the BBC (which is a non-commercial public owned corporation)...
If any TV content provided by the BBC was made available globally, they would be in violation of the BBC charter because it would mean people who do not pay the licence fee are able to access the content too, which isn't fair.
For content around the globe, the BBC uses its commercial arm "BBC Worldwide" to distribute content, although mostly its repeats of The Office and Faulty Towers as opposed to cutting edge concert footage ;)

Ah, so its just a problem with video? I remember watching a few UW shows via iTunes (once on my iPhone even) and listened to broadcasts on Radio1 etc.
Yeah its just video, but only for the BBC.... if anyone else blocks it, its probably just a rights issue.

I was always wondering if better quality is FM recording from England or digital stream from Europe, me specifically in Czech Republic. It depends on the bitrate I assume. The question is, if its worth recording from here...
TheBang
08-07-2010, 05:36 PM
FM would be better. The BBC web stream is 48 Kbps AAC.

Sweet merciful crap, did someone record this?
Would love to hear an UW live rendition of Downpipe! I'm gonna make you shake, i'm gonna make your hands shake!
Rest of the tracklist pretty identical to recent shows, but hey, let's hear and compare! Noticed that in the Jule 17 performance there was a little screw-up in NUXX, a rarity i;m sure, and some Rick Smith bg vox- how';s that developing?
Please UW, come to Houston! Failing that, Toronto. If not there, well, i'll make it to NYC again, i suppose!

OK, here you go. This is a direct rip of the HE-AAC stream from the BBC internet stream. You need something that supports HE-AAC playback, otherwise you'll just get the AAC-LC core, and it'll sound flat. iTunes 9 and later, and iOS 3.1 and later support HE-AAC. Also, iPods from Sept. 2009 and later.
http://www.mediafire.com/?oa4ppgok4kcfoyy
There will probably be a better version coming to RTSR later, but I know you guys can't wait.
Stimpee edit: Don't be confused by the jargon here. This is a 22mb m4a audio file and will probably play on any recent audio player. Its directly ripped from the stream, no re-encoding necessary.

Sounds like it was much better mixes between the songs and more cool sound effects than in Italy. I hope one day I have the privilege to hear it live :)
I didn´t miss Bird1 and Diamond Jigsaw. It may sound good with headphones but not much energy in it live.
Apropos good sound quality....

on another note - are UW retiring NUXX - what with all the thanks they keep giving out when they play it live recently, i hope so, they have so many good tunes to play now, NUXX can go from the odd set... (ps bring back moaner!)
maybe the forum show is a good place to drop it from the set - we the hardcore fans don't really need to hear it there....

the beginning of the set (downpipe)... says hello and counts the start of the beat. it seems he wants more of the spot light, who knows maybe he is going to sing a whole song by himself soon ;)

I didnt hear Ricks vocal much at all @ Ibiza. So I cant say much on that. I heard some on the stream from iTunes Fest but the iTunes EP its toned down. Give him a break I say. Its not his forte, but he's trying. Sounds better than Darren singing Yard Beat :p (sorry Darren).

ya know, I find Between Stars kinda boring. I mean it sounds fine, builds and all that, but I find it very forgettable. Usually I find myself skipping right to the new tracks for listen after listen after listen! With Between Stars, that's not happening.
This is the first time I've liked Downpipe too. Maybe its growing on me? :O Live its pretty good, but I'm not sure I'll ever want to buy that track on its own.

Yeah; Two Months Off is a great studio track but it's become really stale live. Same thing over and over and over. And they don't even have the drive to improvise on it like they do with NUXX. It just seems to be taking up ten precious minutes of show time to me.
