from cinemastrikesback.com:

The Criterion Collection (http://www.criterionco.com/) will be releasing Richard Linklater’s cult classic and one of my favorite films “Dazed and Confused” on DVD in 2006. The Criterion release is rumored to be a two disc set filled with lavish extra’s and the best quality yet for the film in any video release. This is huge news as Universal has always dropped the ball at giving this film the love it deserved. Criterion has now stepped up to the plate to give one of the most important films of the 90’s a proper release and not only that a DVD that will surely be filled full of indepth insight into it’s making and release.

I was going to wait until it was official and on the Criterion page before I posted, but Chris Garcia already spilled the beans in the Austin American Statesman. Criterion is going to put out (at long last) a Dazed and Confused disc.

Also, "Making Dazed" played on AMC the other night. It was an hour-long doc constructed from period behind-the-scenes footage, footage from the Alamo Drafthouse's 10-year anniversary outside screening, and new interviews. It was really great and I'm 99% sure it will be on the Criterion DVD!

Oh HELL FUCKING YEAH!

Bout' damn time too.

Universal botched a second release last year with that inane foil slip case release with deleted scenes/outtakes.

The Criterion release just makes sense too, espcially after the release of Richard Linklater's Slacker in 2004.

I'm excited!

One of my favourite quotes from ANY movie not just this one:

"That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age." (Wooderson)

I just love the iconic poster artwork for D&C. It adorned my walls for several years.

On a par with the original one for Trainspotting.

It's been years since I've seen it, but I loved that movie. I remember laughing a whole lot at the part where the girl asks her little brother "is that a beer in your hand?" and he turns really slowly and takes a long look at it, then turns back and goes "Why SO IT IS!"

Anyone see the family guy this week? There was a ref. to Dazed and Confused about ten minutes into the episode involving Chris getting paddled in the same shot structure and slow motion as Mitch does in the film. It made me chuckle a bit.
