Kraftwerk - 12345678 The Catalogue
Four Decades of Masterworks
CD, CD Box Set, Vinyl & Download
5th October 2009
Kraftwerk: Electro Pioneers, living legends and globally revered masters of electronic sound, celebrate the 35th anniversary of their landmark 1974 hit 'Autobahn' by releasing digitally remastered versions of eight astounding albums on 5th October 2009. Rolling back musical barriers with every forward-thinking phase of their career, Dusseldorf's Zen masters of electronic minimalism laid the foundations for four decades of computerised pop and dance music. By chain reaction and mutation, they have influenced generations of artists in all genres, mapping musical futures yet to come. From Bowie to Daft Punk, Aphex Twin to Portishead, Dr Dre to LCD Soundsystem, and almost everyone in between, the mark of Kraftwerk is endless, endless.
In 2009 Kraftwerk have upgraded their Kling Klang masters with the latest studio technology and these eight magnificent recordings still sound like nothing else in the history of music. Kraftwerk are unique, pristine, profound and beautiful. Decades may pass, but their streamlined synthetic symphonies stand outside time, as fresh as tomorrow, transcendent and sublime.
12345678 The Catalogue will be released across the following formats:
8 x individual CDs presented in special slipcases featuring newly expanded artwork, including many previously unseen images all of which have been reproduced to the highest technical standards.
CD Box Set containing 8 x CDs in 'mini-vinyl' card wallet packaging, plus individual large format booklets.
8 x individual heavyweight vinyl LPs with large format booklets.
Digital downloads. After their recent jaw dropping 3-D show at the Manchester Velodrome, Kraftwerk's next UK live appearance will be as headliners for Bestival on 12th September.

It's still hard to believe this is seeing the light of day after 5 years. But I got my preorder in for the German set as soon as I heard it appeared. The cd box set is supposed to be in a vinyl-sized box, which seems cool.

Wow! I had given up hope that this was ever coming out.
So what's the general consensus, is the German version the way to go?

more updates:
"The 12" x 12" box set features all 8 albums, exclusively created just for this box set in mini-LP style album packaging complete with inner sleeves. Restored and newly expanded artwork is presented in the form of 8 large format 12 to 20 page booklets, housed inside a rigid board slipcase portfolio."
"Due to licensing restrictions in the U.S., only five of the eight albums will be released as separate CD and LP editions: Autobahn, Radio-Activity, Trans Europe Express, The Man Machine and Tour De France (2003). As a result, the only way for fans to own the entire catalogue on CD is to purchase the Box Set."
The release date for the english version is pushed to November 17th instead of October 6th.

How is the remaster ?
I'm slightly ashamed to admit it, but I've uploaded them all to my ipod, so haven't had a proper listen yet.
I played TEE on the train on the way to work and it sounded great, but I need to give them a proper go on the hi-fi this weekend.
...well worth spending all that money on the discs, eh?

I was originally going to get the German one, but went for the English one in the end, I'd be more familiar with those anyway.
Looking forward to first 3 album box, see you in 5-20 years, might buy the new Blue Nile album on the same day.

Remaster sounds absolutely teriffic by the way. A lot more 'thump' and there are a few hidden noises in "Neon Lights" I didn't notice on my old copies

Yup, decent price bought mine from Amazon.
Flipping €89.99 in the shops, what kind of exchange rate is that?
Riddle me this, I was playing Radioactivity on the way home, loads of German vocals on that album....so which ones are different on the English v German versions?

Yeah, I paid €84.99 (+ shipping) from Amazon and got my cc statement in today for the purchase. Worked out to almost $150 US. Man. It's such a stunning set, but...yikes, that's a killer.
As for Radio-Aktivitat, it's not like the other albums where all of the lyrics are in German. It's just different in titles. I learned that when I bought a German version of it on cd in the 90s and it had the same lyrics (mixture of English and German).

I was a bit confused to what they were trying to do there as well. It seems like they were trying to replace Electric Cafe with Techno Pop, what was supposed to be the 'original' version of that album before Hutter's bike crash sidelined it. I was pretty excited for that because Bartos had hinted that there were completed versions of Techno Pop around, which IIRC would have included "Tour de France" on it. Releasing the album this way with "House Phone" implies that the track was around before the single and was originally intended to be on the album. All things considered I don't think it's a big deal...the second half of "Call" was all jamming anyway, wasn't it?

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
got both the german boxset,
and the american ones yesterday!!!!
i love the huge box, and the booklets and
the packaging! although i don't like the way
the cd's have to be in the box, and i wish it
had a separate smaller package that fits in the
box.. like the 2004 promo..
i also got the 9 track promo sampler!...
so now all i need are the individual german/english
releases, and the the Vinyl package, and i'll be set..
the pictures in the booklets are very high quality,
and very cool to look through..
i enjoyed the 'laptop' boxset, and booklet from the 'maximum minimum'
tour..
i don't know how kraftwerk is able to put out such amazing releases,
considering how few they have, and their smaller market share..
but as fan, i'm in heaven!!!!!
underworld, please do this someday!!!
bjork/depeche mode/pet shop boys/u2, all have had amazing deluxe
boxset releases with multiple singles...
you can do it also !!!!!!

The above link shows $105 plus free shipping for The Catalouge. If the sound quality is as good as advertised on here, then I'll most likely buy it. It does look like a worthy boxset to own. I wish I had got into Kraftwerk sooner, but been listening to 'Autobahn' alot lately.

ok, so i'm listening to the 'new' version of technopop with
telephone call split up.. i guess i was so used to the original
version of the song, it still seems 'wrong'... but as far as their
concepts go.. yes, they usually split songs into parts, like
they did with 'trans europe express', and 'computerworld'..
so i can see why they wanted to split the track..
