just reclaimed this concert dvd.
taken from the 89-90 North American tour ( land of rape and honey ), its fantastic.
superimposed imagry ( or special effex ) ala tomato.
i was 18 when this came out...and i was a massive Ministry fan, being an industrial dj at the time.
i had this on vhs, and must have played this hundreds of times.
then someone stole it.
buggers.
feels good to reclaim some of my youth by watching and now owning this.
Jello Biafra gives an ' up yours ' speech to the US government...
burn baby burn.
its shared on soulseek if youre interested.
800 meg file.

That cd was pretty much the soundtrack to my high-school life. Haven't listened to much ministry in the last 10 years, but every once in a while I revisit it and it grabs me by the balls. When they're good, they're a great visceral thrill.

I remember watching this as well. It was fucking great. If a remeber correctly they were playing in some sort of fenced stage...really weird.

a blistering double drum kit 11 minute version of SO WHAT.
Ogre singing THEIVES.
Al wearing some crazy WWII helmet.
visions that, little did we know, would come back to haunt me 15 years later.
this file will never leave my hard drive.

lollapalooza...7 pm...sun is starting to set...assorted human looking bones attached to the mike stand front and centre of the stage.
35,000 people wait impatiently...crowd has absolutly no idea what theyre in for.
enter Ministry.
Al looks possessed...pissed off to no end.
spits JD into the front rows.
i'll never forget that concert...permanently etched into my mind.
I saw Ministry recently here in Toronto...small club gig...just as intense...Al , now clean and sober ( ala Reznor ) still has the strength and power to Fcuk your mind up as he did before.
i hear theyre announcing another North American tour.
not to be missed.
its neato to see a full grown man ( Al ) pummel a life sized lookalike dummy of Dubya.

picked this up at the 2004 tour.

my neighbor and i became so obssessed with Chris Connelly after watching this video over and over, he even tried to get his hair into dreads... of course they didn't look the same and he had to wear a rasta hat to school once then get all his hair cut off but still.

yeah they sold links of the chainlink fence at invisible records at one time...

they also intercut the video footage of all the eyes during 'stigmata' on this video didn't they? i remember seeing this before catching the proper video and being super grossed out by the one frame that's all bloody and melted.

I heard Ministry for the first time the same exact night I heard Nine Inch Nails for the first time. It pretty much defined my musical taste for a good 3, 4 years. Those were the days though, when WaxTrax! was on fire and all those hypo/luxa releases were kinda leaking out like PTP (with Chris Connelly), Acid Horse (with Cabaret Voltaire), Paildhead (with Ian from Fugazi), and Lard (with Jello Biafra). it really felt like you could be living on Damen Ave in chicago if you tracked down enough of their singles and EPs...

By the way, i have a lot of those little side-projects ripped for my friends on soulseek if nostalgic curiosity ever grabs you.

don't forget Revolting C*cks! (Al and Paul Barker)

i had a fuck off huge wall sized RevCo poster of Al and Paul on my bedroom wall (half nekkid, wangs hangin' out and blacked over, and all!).

my mom was less than amused! ;)

same here. i really got into Connelly's solo stuff (Phenobarb Bambalam, Ship Wreck, Whiplash Boychild, etc.); man, that was about 12 years ago.

100 homo djs is shared on my slsk along with a few revCo albums and all the stuff previously mentioned if you're on my friends list (i added pretty much everybody that posted to that 'what's your soulseek name' thread)... my slsk nick is 'thl'

although the version of supernaught on that is with Al's lyrics. the Reznor vocal version "officially" came out on the Black Box... i'm not sure i have that ripped or not

personally i could _barely_ tell them apart anyway.

Speaking of Industrial: Skinny Puppy's last stint is to be released on DVD come Sept. 27 w/ additional live footage from previous tours. The last tour was a welcome for me. I plan to give as much word of mouth support on this one, so will repost same info. when release is certain as "Ain't It Dead Yet" was held back so much then never really "official" in end for what reasons escape me.

Ah, I still have this VHS tape somewhere and this thread made me listen to the entire album of The Land of Rape and Honey on Sunday.

Good times indeed.

I remember being really geared up to see Ministry live for the first time in support of Filth Pig(bad album, but not without a few glimmers here and there) and having my ride for the show fall through on the day of the show. It was about an hour drive and my only friend with a license and a car was driving.

Oh well.

Good to hear that AL is clean now. Earlier today I was listening to a live version of Supernaut from a nine inch nails show from 1991 or 1990.

It's always been my understanding that the "Al" version was just a distorted version of Trent's vocals. TVT said they had to change it because they were fueding with Trent and didn't want their big act on "some little side project." So Al did a little studio distortion and said it was his voice.

i'd never heard that but it would make sense.. they sound SO similar... although the vocals in the "trent" version that's on the black box aren't really any more or less distorted than the "al" version... who knows. still a great song :)

"Practically every one of the top 40 records being played on every radio station in the United States is a communication to the children: to take a trip, to cop out, to groove. The psychedelic jackets on the record albums have their own hidden symbols and messages as well as all the lyrics of all the top rock songs, and they all say the same refrain: it's fun to take a trip, to put acid in your veins"
